Este análisis muestra que los esfuerzos por expandir el acceso y el uso de planificación familiar en Nicaragua han sido exitosos, pero que aún existen discrepancias en la tasa global de fecundidad (TGF) y en la tasa de prevalencia anticonceptiva (TPA) entre los grupos socio-económicos y entre los grupos geográficos en Nicaragua.

To further update and continue with the efforts, the authors conducted a reproductive health commodity security situation analysis to assess and understand the current situation.
This RHCS situational analysis provides information for strengthening the efforts to improve RHCS and for developing an updated national strategic plan.

This paper demonstrates a methodology that Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) ministries of health can easily use to geographically identify and target scarce resources to improve access to family planning. Guatemala was chosen as a case study for implementing the methodology, in large part because of the disparities that exist between its different subpopulations. The results highlight the potential for applying this methodology in other countries in the LAC region.

Countries use many sources of financing to obtain the contraceptive commodities needed for the public sector. Many countries are beginning to use their own national resources, whether from internally generated funding or from other sources such as World Bank loans or basket funds, to finance contraceptives. The USAID | DELIVER PROJECT conducted a survey to determine to what extent this type of financing is being used in developing countries. This brief describes the survey findings and offers a general discussion of such financing.

The Contraceptive Security Index is a tool for measuring and monitoring a country's level of contraceptive security. It consists of 17 indicators—such as poverty level, method mix, and forecasting ability—that cover the primary components of contraceptive security (supply chain, finance, health and social environment, access, and utilization). The indicators can be used separately to monitor progress in each component. They are also aggregated to establish a composite index to compare countries at a point in time or to monitor progress over time within a country. Los países de Latinoamérica y el Caribe han venido enfrentando desde hace algunos años una disminución gradual de fondos de donantes para la adquisición de insumos anticonceptivos. Ante esta perspectiva, Ecuador ha dado importantes pasos para asegurar la disponibilidad de insumos anticonceptivos, mediante la aplicación de políticas y leyes que garantizan el financiamiento y la compra de anticonceptivos. No obstante, el sector público puede explorar distintas opciones de compra regional e internacional en un sistema de salud descentralizado, para garantizar la disponibilidad asegurada de los insumos, optimizando costos de adquisición y enfocando su atención a los sectores de la población más vulnerables. Regulatory guidelines under the Nepal Drug Act of 1978 govern the sale and distribution of pharmaceutical products in Nepal. Regulations are based on a 1995 National Drug Policy that promotes community drug financing programs in the public sector and establishes profit and distribution margin rates. Those policies were put in place to encourage equity, access, and use of medicines. The findings from this analysis indicate that cumulative distribution and profit margins for some reproductive health (RH) medicines in the private sector exceed the established norms.
