Depending on the environment in a given country, the more than 200 different health commodities that are part of a comprehensive HIV/AIDS program might need to be delivered through either one management system or multiple systems. Funding constraints usually mean that not all commodities will be available in full supply. In these cases, programs need to identify commodities that should receive priority funding when gaps occur.
Still, the availability of commodities alone cannot bring success to a program. For products to be used correctly, good management of the supply chain must occur, a laboratory infrastructure must be in place, and training must be available to service providers and clients alike.
