La segmentación de mercado constituye una de las herramientas principales para conocer el mercado de anticonceptivos, visualizar dónde se están focalizando los recursos e identificar problemas de acceso y equidad entre quintiles socio-económicos. Este análisis muestra que los esfuerzos por expandir el acceso y el uso de planificación familiar en Honduras han sido exitosos, pero que aún existen discrepancias en las tasas de fecundidad global y en la tasa de prevalencia anticonceptiva entre las poblaciones urbanas y rurales y entre los grupos socio-económicos en Honduras y que la necesidad insatisfecha alcanza un 16.9 por ciento. The purpose of the family planning logistics system is to maintain availability of contraceptives at the service delivery points. The USAID | DELIVER PROJECT, a worldwide public health supply chain improvement initiative, uses the logistics system assessment tool (LSAT) to measure and monitor the performance of contraceptive supply chains in developing countries. This study describes the LSAT and assesses its reliability and validity.

Countries use many sources of financing to obtain the contraceptive commodities needed for the public sector. Many countries are beginning to use their own national resources, whether from internally generated funding or from other sources such as World Bank loans or basket funds, to finance contraceptives. The USAID | DELIVER PROJECT conducted a survey to determine to what extent this type of financing is being used in developing countries. This brief describes the survey findings and offers a general discussion of such financing.

The Contraceptive Security Index 2006 is a powerful tool for raising awareness about contraceptive security (CS) and the interrelationships between program components, different sectors, and program outcomes. At the country level, it can help identify areas of relative strength and weakness to help stakeholders target their resources more effectively and appropriately.

The Contraceptive Security Index is a tool for measuring and monitoring a country's level of contraceptive security. It consists of 17 indicators—such as poverty level, method mix, and forecasting ability—that cover the primary components of contraceptive security (supply chain, finance, health and social environment, access, and utilization). The indicators can be used separately to monitor progress in each component. They are also aggregated to establish a composite index to compare countries at a point in time or to monitor progress over time within a country. DELIVER has published a wall chart and a booklet of the Index, which rates 57 countries.

The first USAID | DELIVER PROJECT Task Order 1 (TO1) annual report covers the period from October 2006 to September 2007. TO1 has been very effective and responsive in its first year of operation. The project continued field work in 21 countries, including 15 with field offices; provided D.C.-based support to USAID’s central contraceptive procurement system; established new core-funded teams; transitioned to a new management information system (MIS); and provided direct procurement services.
